This first page of 2009 is one of
sadness and grief as we are still
trying to accept that our DeeDee
has been taken to Rainbow Bridge
very suddenly and tragically.  We
will always love her and keep her
in our hearts.  To visit DeeDee's

Max was having some back problems.  At the time the last page was published, it was still
uncertain if surgery was going to be needed.  I am happy to report that Max has recovered on
his own and is doing well.  We even got a little weight off of him to help his back in the future.
Here he is with his sister, Amber.
The last Picture Page of 2009 revealed problems that a few of the dogs were having.  At that
time, I promised updates on the first page of 2009.  So, here we go.....
Tara is still having quite a few problems related to old age.  Earlier this week we discussed the
possibility that we may soon have to make the dreaded decision to allow her to go to be with
DeeDee at Rainbow Bridge.  She does still have some good days mixed in with the bad, so she
will have to be the one to let us know she is ready to go.  Max is always right there to give her
kisses.
Back in February April had exploratory surgery to determine the cause of her digestive
problems.  In addition to IBD, she has a rare disease affecting the lymph glands within her
intestines.  During the surgery, six inches of her intestine had to be removed because of
severe damage.  She is now on her third round of treatments but so far there has only been a
slight improvement.  This may take a long time for her to recover, and she may never
completely recover.  April still grieves for her mother.  April and DeeDee always shared this
bed for their afternoon naps.  April has not returned to the bed since DeeDee's death.
Serena is still hanging in there since being diagnosed with congestive heart failure in December
of 2007.  At that time the vets at the emergency room where she was taken didn't give much
hope of her even surviving through the night much less well over a year.  She thankfully has the
determination not to ever leave me.  I consider every day with her a gift from God, but I also
know that one day soon the Lord will call her home.
We had a little visitor at our house in March.  I was standing at the kitchen window on a rainy
Sunday morning when a little Chihuahua ran past the house obviously lost.  I told John and he
immediately ran out the door and called the little guy.  He was way down the road already but
he heard John and came back.  He made himself right at home and all our dogs accepted him
into their group right away.  That afternoon we painted a big sign to hang at the entrance to our
subdivision saying we found a small dog and asking that the owner call to identfy it.  No one
called that day so he stayed the night.  Finally the next afternoon I received a call from a
woman who lives at the other end of the subdivision.  She came right over to see if it was her
"Houdini".  It was, so he returned home.  The name "Houdini" fits him well because she told me
he was a real escape artist. Houdini could very well have been the twin brother to our
Maggie,
who went to Rainbow Bridge in June of 2005.

STRAY ANIMALS THAT HAVE BEEN WANDERING AROUND LATELY.  AFTER DEE DEE'S
DEATH, WE INVESTED IN A HIGH PRIVACY FENCE SO THEY CAN NO LONGER SEE
ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF THEIR OWN YARD.

I WOKE UP ONE NIGHT AND THIS IS WHAT I FOUND NEXT TO ME.  I HAD TO SNEAK
OUT OF BED AND GRAB THE CAMERA.
SOMETHING INSIDE OF ME TOLD ME TO TAKE THIS PICTURE EVEN THOUGH I HAD
TAKEN SO MANY THAT WERE SIMILAR IN THE PAST.  THIS IS THE VERY LAST
PICTURE I WILL EVER TAKE OF DEE DEE.  IT WAS TAKEN JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS
BEFORE SHE WENT OUT TO THE BACKYARD FOR THE LAST TIME.
THIS IS THE SHELF I PUT TOGETHER FOR DEE DEE WITH ALL OF HER PERSONAL
BELONGINGS
WHISPERS FROM HEAVEN

When I left this world without you
I knew it made you blue.
Your tears fell so freely.
I watched; I know this is true.

While you were weeping,
Days after I passed away.
While all was silent within me,
I saw you kneel to pray.

From this wonderful place called Heaven
Where all my pain is gone,
I send a gentle breeze to whisper,
"My loved ones, please go on".

The peace that I have found here
Goes far beyond compare
No rain, no clouds, no suffering---
Just LOVE from everywhere.

You need not be troubled.
Just stay close to GOD in prayer.
Someday we'll be reunited
My love, HIS love surrounds you always,
EVERYWHERE!
REST IN PEACE, MY PRECIOUS ANGEL

I WOULD NOW LIKE TO EXTEND OUR THANKS TO ALL OUR WONDERFUL FRIENDS
WHO HAVE BEEN THERE FOR US AND HAVE SUPPORTED US DURING THIS VERY SAD
TIME.
