Shadow’s and Bambi’s Stories<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SHADOW<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shadow came to live with us as a bouncy, furry 8-week-old Collie puppy.  The kids had reached an age where they wanted an active puppy to play with, and try as hard as she did, Dusty’s age was catching up with her.   Dusty was still a young dog, but arthritis had set in, and she preferred to sleep most of the time.  Bringing Shadow into our home was probably one of the best moves we could have made for Dusty.  Shadow revived the youthful playfulness in Dusty, and her arthritis seemed to disappear.  Dusty was given a new lease on life.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shadow was our traveling companion.  She loved car rides and would usually always go wherever we went.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadly, Shadow only lived to the age of three. She had developed what first seemed to be some sort of stomach virus.  It became worse and was finally determined to be some type of inoperable stomach cancer.  At that time, radiation and chemotherapy was not an option for dogs.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One summer day Shadow went out into the backyard and fell asleep under her favorite tree.  It was here that she fell asleep for the last time.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BAMBI<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bambi came into our lives totally unexpected. A few months before Shadow died, we were in a pet shop getting some supplies to make Shadow more comfortable.  In the pet shop was a tiny Chihuahua puppy that was almost identical to the little Princess I had as a teenager.  We talked it over that night and went back to get her the next day.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the first things Bambi presented us with was a huge medical bill to get the piece of her wicker basket out of her stomach that she decided to nibble on one night.  That was a lesson to me.  Never get one of those cute wicker dog beds.  They usually end up as being one of the greatest things to chew on.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bambi was with us for about six years before she mysteriously disappeared one night when we left her at Mom’s.  We found a hole under the fence in the backyard where a neighbor had been pulling weeds.  Bambi must have found the hole that night when she was let into the backyard before bedtime.  We never saw Bambi again.  Some people reported that a car had hit her but we don’t know that that’s true.  We searched for her but never found her.  Bambi was the only dog that I lost so tragically and I will never forget the feelings I had when I realized we would probably never find her.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To this day I still check the yard periodically to make sure no holes have appeared under the fence.  In fact, we are now in the process of burying cement blocks under the fence around our entire 2 acres to keep our dogs from digging out and others from digging in.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
