Our household experienced both wonderful events and tragic events over the past 6 months. For those of you who have visited some of the first pages of this website, you may remember seeing some of the pictures of our son and daughter, Jeff and Shelly, when they were just youngsters. Later you got to meet our first grandchildren, Lindsey, Cortney, and Jason (children of Jeff and Nicole). On September 12, 2007, Shelly and Nick presented us with two new little bundles of joy. Please let me introduce you to our two newest grandchildren, Rylee Katherine and Nolan James. |
These kids are being taught to love dogs (like Grandma and Grandpa) right from the start. Here they are, with their very own dog, Tyson. |
Moving on to the tragedy of 2007. On October 5 my little Max was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease. This is the very same disease that paralyzed my Doxie, Ginger, back in 1992. Ginger's son, Bart, inherited the disease from his mother, but was spared paralysis because we were more familiar with the disease and acted quickly. Quick action has also spared Max from being permanently paralyzed. He had immediate surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord and came home the day after his surgery. He was walking when he returned home, and we were all quite pleased about that. He still has a slight limp and will probably have it for the rest of his life, but he will have a completely normal life in every other way. For this we are very thankful. Following are some pictures of Max, and a short video taken the day he got out of the hospital. |

A near tragedy for Holly was avoided in November. A couple of years ago a serious ear infection resulted in a very painful surgery for Holly in which one of her ears had to be closed and her eardrum relocated to the side of her head. Early this month she developed the same condition in her other ear. We expected to have to put her through the surgery a second time. Fortunately, the infection has cleared up for now and her ear has almost returned to normal. I have to thoroughly clean her ear every day to try and keep the infection from returning. |
The infection made Holly's ear appear to be stuffed with cauliflower. |
A couple years ago, this same infection required surgery to close Holly's ear and move her eardrum to the side of her head. |
Holly is healthy and happy today without a second surgery. |
Hopefully there won't be any more unhappy events for a while. Now it's time to meet the rest of the crew once again. |
