Tasha’s Story

OUR SWEET LITTLE “TINY BIT” LOST HER 2-YEAR BATTLE
WITH PARATHYROID DISEASE WHEN SHE WENT INTO
KIDNEY FAILURE.  SHE WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS.

Tasha was a dog once belonging to our daughter, Shelly.  She was a very tiny American Eskimo, only weighing about 8 pounds.  She had no allergies or health problems until May of 2004 when she was diagnosed with parathyroid disease.  While living with Shelly she did have the misfortune of getting caught by Shelly’s Jack Russell Terrier, Jack, and giving birth to 3 little “Jackimos”.  The 3 little boys had to be delivered by C-section and all found very good homes.  Tasha was spayed during the procedure.

Shelly and her husband, Nick, were registered breeders of Jack Russells and Boxers.  Tasha was really out of place.  John was always very fond of Tasha because of her tiny size.  One day in the summer of 2003 we went to visit Shelly, and John just decided that Tasha was coming home with us for a “vacation”.  I thought it was going to just be for a visit, but John decided she got along so well with the other dogs that were more her size that she was going to stay with us.

John nicknamed Tasha “Tiny Bit” and she certainly was a “tiny bit” with a huge amount of love to give, and she gave it freely.

Tasha lived with parathyroid disease for 2 years but never let it get her down.  A calcium deficiency during the onset of the disease caused her jaw to break just by crunching on hard dog food.  After this, she could only eat soft food.  Her jaw healed but left her mouth a little out of line.  Eventually all her teeth had to be pulled, but she never complained.  We were told that the disease would one day cause Tasha’s kidneys to fail.  She was put on a special kidney diet to try and keep her kidneys functioning as long as possible.

After her diagnoses we knew that each day we had with Tasha was a gift.  She remained with us for 2 more years and we cherished each and every day with her.  Then in April of 2006 her body just got tired and she couldn’t fight kidney failure any longer.  My “Tiny” little girl left for Rainbow Bridge when she was only 7 years old.  We know she is now with all our other fur angels, but her loss is difficult for us.  We will always love her.

Be at peace and pain free, my little “Tiny Bit”.
